Blurb from Goodreads:

Discover the mystery of the two-headed rose and many more Strange Secrets in this new collection of extraordinary stories by Mike Russell. ‘It can’t be real.’ ‘But it is.’ Strange Secrets invites you to discover the magical and the marvelous. Startlingly inventive and constantly entertaining, these unique, vital and vividly realized stories will take you to places you have never been before. Strange Secrets is Mike Russell’s third short-story collection.

This was certainly one of the most unique books i have ever read. The book has seven stories.

The constantly empty pool

the puppeteer

Arnolds melting foot

Missing persons

reality

The forest

Maps.

Strange is definitely one way to describe this book. While it is a short book , it took me a week and a half to finish it because i would pause for a while( even while washing the dishes, i was that serious) and try to figure out if there was some metaphor of life i was missing out on.

It’s not that deep ( or is it)…however it makes you think hard. The stories are well written but heaven knows they messed up my mind, a lot of times i had to re-read a story again just to be sure that’s what i read and my mind wasn’t making stuff up. The story that had me asking WTH the most was The Forest, HOLY POTATOES ON A STICK, that ones pure insanity but I LOVED IT. I think my IQ increased( like 0.05%) after reading it.

I think the authors mind is definitely something i would want to explore like how do you come up with these stories, who do you base your characters on and i would give you ice cream and cookies if you please tell me the meaning behind the stories. Or i could just ride the magic school bus and explore your mind myself.

If you love thinking hard ( because your brain will take you places you have never been), if you love unique stories, i recommend this to you. I would also say you should give it a go, try something different from your normal genre ( mine is Romance), you would love it.
