Book Review: Confession series

Hey Guys,

Its been a hot minute, i have been busy with my work i just rounded up the worlds most annoying assay Nitric oxide antioxidant assay. I swear to all the sweet potatoes in the world i was almost at my wits end with this one. But thank Jah I made it through! And now this post is up because yours truly is procrastinating with statistics (don’t judge me!).

Tittle: Confession series, Book 1: Robbie, Book 2: Julien , Book 3: Priest Book 4 : The Princess, The prick & The priest

Author: Ella Frank

Genre :M/M/M, Romance

Rating: 4.9 ‘hot’ stars

Reader Age: Definitely 18+

I highly recommend reading the series in order because the stories are linked.

Julien Thornton  and Joel Priest are a married couple, they love each other but they need a balance in their relationship. Enter Robbie the princess of their dreams with his sassy mouth and beautiful heart, Robbie is just recovering after a breakup that left him doubting himself. Julien and Priest have baggage from their past, some of them life threatening but can Robbie heal their hearts before it is too late?

Ella Frank created the perfect balance for a polygamous relationship.

The problems i usually have when reading poly-relationship books is that most of the time they are not realistic and there is no balance. M/M/M books are difficult to pull off because of this and when you find a book that is able to bring both balance and a bit of reality into the story, it turns out to be a gem. The sex scenes were SIZZLING dear potatoes you might need to drink water so that you wouldn’t choke ( especially that scene in book two, oh wait you’ll just have to read it to find out). The dialogues are witty especially Robbie’s comebacks with Priest.

This series is a gem, the characters are perfect for each other.

Robbie Bianchi is the muthafreaking princess of the world, he is fun to be around and caring. If color had a personification Robbie fits that description well, he brightens up the room were ever he goes and definitely brightens up Julien and Priest’s life. He brings out their protective sides but do not be fooled, this princess would cut you if need be.

Reading the stories i can see why Robbie was perfect, he is like a soothing balm for Julien and Priest, their ego’s are huge  and their wounds were deep.

Julien is a world famous french chef , he got his nickname ‘the prick’ on a cooking show ( to be honest the other contestant was being a dick). Julien blames himself that happened in the past and it hunts him everyday. Julien loves his husband and is clearly devoted to him, in fact it is because of Priest that he turns his life around for the best. Robbie was able to help Julien simmer down his ego to just the right level were it wouldn’t cause problems in their relationship.

Joel Priest, the larger than life lawyer. Priest is running from a traumatic past, one he tries to protect his lovers from. He is a force to be reckoned with and no one messes with his men while he’s around. I like the way Robbie faces up to Priest, he was not afraid to call out is bullshit even though Priest is scary ( the good kind of scary). Despite his love of control Priest never used it against his lovers, he never made them feel less than they were, he uplifted and protected them.

He protec

Book 1-3 was them working out their relationship and book 4 is the nice tied-up happy ending bow.

I missed them as soon as i finished the last book.

I recommend this series if you love love and witty dialogues and super smexy scenes you won’t regret it.

Discussion: Cliff Hangers

Lets talk about the most evil thing an author could do to a reader. MUTHAFLUFFING CLIFF HANGERS.

Discussion: Book Influence

Hey guys,

Have you ever said this, ”it was the book that made me do it”.

I definitely have, i realized that the kind of books i read really influence me for that whole period of time.  Does the character have a tattoo? Guess who wants one.

Okay so this is the one that really got me, i hate eating cereals  i’d rather go hungry instead.  But for some reason i started craving one when i was reading a book and the MC was eating cereal. After the book i went back to hating cereal…absolutely weird

Does this happen to you?  Leave some character quirks you adapt when reading books in the comments below.

Unicorn Reviews: PlayBoy

Title: Playboy( manwhore #5)

Author: Katy Evans

Rating: 5 sizzling Unicorn stars

Date of Publication: 29/07/2018

ARC provided by: Social Butterfly PR

Blurb from GR

It started as a game.
We flirted. We played. Most importantly—we won.
Then I discovered who he was: Gambler. Famous playboy. Silver-eyed player who never plays to lose.
…And my best friend’s soon-to-be brother in law, Cullen Carmichael.
He needed a good luck charm, I needed a distraction.
So we made a gamble and set off for Vegas—but pretty soon—I was in too deep.
My heart, soul, and body weren’t supposed to be part of the deal.
But somewhere between big wins and long nights, my house of cards started to tumble.
What was this devil with those piercing eyes doing to me?
I’d given up on love, but the wicked, all-in Cullen Carmichael was upping the ante and wouldn’t stop until he’d won it all.

This ARC was provided by Social butterfly PR all opinions are my own.

The review

Please note that you can definitely read this book on its own but to be part of the family i recommend starting from the first book Man whore , there are smexy characters waiting for you.

So i actually thought that manwhore series was going to end with Callan, but nope aunty Katy had Cullen Carmichael to wake up my hunger for bootiful people.

Wynn  has just broken up with her long-time boyfriend and she’s on a date when she meets hot, broody smexy Cullen the poker player nicknamed playboy . They make a bet and then the sexual tension of a life time begins.

If you are familiar with Katy’s writing you know you are in for a ride and by the time you finish the book you’ll be begging Jah for a Cullen Carmichael to show up at your door.

Now if you are not familiar with Katy’s writing, grab some popcorn and get comfy if you have a boyfriend throw him out the window because when you finish the book you’ll have higher standards ( *okay wait don’t do that *).

Wynn is Rachel, Lizzy and Gina’s best friend ( read Manwhore 1-4 to understand). she’s a serial dater because she is looking for that happy ever after just like her parents have but princess just keeps meeting heartbreak and the last one was just way too painful.

I liked the new side of Wynn in this book, when she was with the girls in the other books i thought she was this happy, strong woman that had everything going well for her but we get to see a vulnerable Wynn hereand i did enjoy that. She brings out the best in Cullen and they compliment each other, she shows her playful and sensual side with him.

Now to the most important part of this book…my future boyfriend *ahem* Cullen Carmichael. Ermm excuse me God and all the angels in heaven, evolution and everything else on earth  WHERE THE HELL IS MY CULLEN CARMICHAEL? Okay i’m done screaming.

Lets paint a picture. He’s a dark broody son of a unicorn, he’s a well known playboy, he rich, he’s an alpha and he fwiiiinee.

Cullen is a professional poker player, he has his own superstitions for Wyning a game ( see what i did there). He has his doubt about women because he’s been burnt in the past but then he see’s the red angel Wynn and he’s about to start thinking of happy ever.

The whole gang is present in this book, we get a glimpse of Rachel and Malcolm’s baby, Tahoe and Callan smitten with their girls and now Wynn’s joining them.

I was all smiles from the beginning of the book till the end and of course i did not want it to end. I loved the writing, Cullen had his POV and i lived for it. Katy’s writing is easy to follow, you will fall in love with the characters and they will forever have a place in your heart.

So why am i trying to convince you to read this book, simple: YOU NEED CULLEN and WYNN IN YOUR LIFE. I’ll right here when you come back to thank me.

Ghosts, bullies, first love: it’s a lot to deal with when you’re just trying to survive senior year

The Review

Trigger warning: Bullying

The story is a bittersweet one, Nate has suffered a lot because of his ability, ostracized in school by an popular evil  bitch and there’s strain in his family. James is the new kid with his own issues but he is a ray of sunlight in our protagonists life, you will love him.

The author balanced humor and tragedy perfectly, there were funny scenes and then there were scenes where you just wanted to hug Nate. His Aunt protected him , i appreciated that she did not baby him and always gave him the truth when needed; she also would not hesitate to smack a bitch that hurts her nephew.

His Nana was just adorable( she’s a ghost haunting their home), i loved the way she still commanded respect even though she was dead. I loved James for taking time to know Nate and stand up for him even though he had problems of his own, he was a good friend  ( until the time he fucked up).

The book was well written with characters you would recognize in your typical high school setting, straight to the point and easy to understand. I gave the book four stars because i thought it was a cute story, the last chapter had me in my feelings tho( when a particular character came back i was like, really bitch? Really).

I recommend this book if you are looking for a short m/m read.

Reading Formats

I have come to the realization that i read more E-books( for the past two years) than physical books and as of lately in have started listening to more audio books. How did this happen?

When E-books started emerging i was one of those ”oh dear God not me i’ll always prefer my physical copies, E-books be damned” ( now say it in a British accent). Now guess who has a three reading apps with over two hundred books. I still buy physical copies of books but i buy twice as much in E-books.

Its a matter of convenience for me i like knowing that if i don’t carry a physical copy i have an e-copy ready and if my battery dies i have my physical copy ( yes i still carry a book around). Currently  the only way i can receive ARCs is in E-form, since i’m an international blogger this is the only way i can receive books.

As for audio books, i love the way narrators bring a story to life with their voices it adds a certain quality that you won’t get from just reading a book. For example, i am sure we have all mispronounced names while reading before but listening to an audio book you will get the right  pronunciation. And most recently i find myself enjoying the tone an emotion  correctly portrayed  while listening to a book . The right accents also make a difference for example  crazy rich Asians by Kevin kwan, listening to the audio made me appreciate the story more because the right accent and even language pronunciation was executed perfectly.

I also listen to self-help and autobiographies on audio because lord knows i cannot read physical copies, i would sleep.

So are you like me, have you suddenly realized that you read more books in one format than the other, let me know in the comments.

Have a rainbow filled week,

Booked Unicorn.

YA Series to complete

Okay this is a hopeful list why, because i am a mood reader. I have a list of books to complete before this year ends (especially all the series i started and did not finish).

Some of these books i started and then two things happened

  1. The character annoyed me to the point of throwing my book at someone ( sorry dear brother!!)
  2. The series has not been fully published and therefore i am afraid to become invested because that would lead me to stalking authors once i start reading .

So I am going to give myself a timeline (6 months duh!!!) to complete all the series i had started and just left. Luckily i have not had any spoilers so here it goes

Daughter of smoke and bone

I KNOW!!! I read the first book TWICE and then i decided to wait till the series was complete before picking it up to read. I even met Laini Taylor ( and she signed all my books oh yeah!!) and had a mini chat with her, she’s the one that got me hooked on Nnedi okorafor. Anyway i am finishing this series this year already have my pre-order for a Muse of nightmares.

The Raven Cycle

The Mortal Instrument world

chileeee lemme tell you what happened with this one.

So i remember reading book one and thinking ” Cassandra Clare what in the world…are you trying to get me to flunk out of uni”. So at the time these series came out i was just starting University and trying to get my head around how things work abroad ( International student here). I stayed up all night reading book one, almost missed my first lecture and i was in a daze through out that day because it was so good.

I had to put the brakes on, i had it bad. I did however buy every book in the series so i will be finishing up this year and then i am going to binge watch the entire series.

Lemony Snicket.

I fulfilled a childhood dream and bought the boxset last year so i will finish this this year.

Confessions series by James Patterson

There are four books in this series and i have read two. I held off finishing this series because i wanted to get the hard copies ( so that everything would be Uniform). An d now my collection is complete.

This is just the tip of the iceberg ( trust me to have 100 series on my TBR). Do you guys have series you need to complete? And if you have completed anyone on this list did you enjoy it, let me know.

Have a rainbow filled day
