Monday Recommendations: Top Ten M/M Books

Well hello there!

Today, i thought to myself, Girl you are a connoisseur of the M/M books ( especially of the smut kind), why not give the people your top ten M/M books.

And that’s how this was born. This list is a rank of my Bestest to my best.

  • The Magpie Lord Series by KJ Charles: I talk about this book a lot so i guess you should pick it up, on my unicorn horn this series makes a good read. Check out my rants and rave about it here
  • Confession series by Ella Frank: Okay this is M/M/M book, its a poly-relationship. Why i love this is because its about healing for Robbie, Priest and Juliene and of course there’s loads of sexy time.
  • The Quarterback (audio book) by Blair Mckenzie: Secret romance between an out dude who ”tutors” a closeted quarterback dude. The lessons are extra special *wink wink*
  • Power Play By Cara Dee:  One Word…Daddy. That’s it, That’s all you need to know to let loose with this one. And yes the smut is strong in this one.
  • Slow Hands by Nora Phoenix: Listen if you throw in BDSM with anything i am reading it. This book was a wholesome read, now i know i said the smut is strong with this list, but trust me when i tell  you this book is more than that. Its about healing, discovering yourself ( and ya damn kink) and learning to trust again. Go read this !
  • Damaged like us  by Krista Ritchie: This is just like bts Kardashian life but make it gay and also imagine one of them falling in love with their body guards. Oh the angst is strong with this one. I listen to the audio book and phew talk about HOT!
  • The soldier’s Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian: Dubious P.I x Upright dude. They both annoy themselves and they just accidentally fall into the bed together, whoopsie!
  • Bishop: A true Lovers Story by A.E Via: Chubby cute button x Ex-con with the magic hands for landscaping.
  • Loving Jay  by Renae Kaye: An extra gayboy + Questioning dude with a disability.
  • I’ll Be your Drill Soldier by Crystal Rose: one of the earlier M/M romance i read It and its military *swoon*. It’s time for a reread!

If you enjoy reading M/M books check out this list! And if you have read any let me know in the comments.

Book Review: The Mermaid the Witch and the sea

Hi guys,

Aside from cover hoe-ism, the promise of adventure drew me to this book.  A genderfluid pirate, a lesbian Lady and spies all aboard a ship called the Dove. Hmm What could possibly go wrong? Lets find out.

I was given this book in exchange for a review by Candlewick press via Netgalley.  All opinions are my own.

the mermaid the witch and the sea

Tittle: The Mermaid, the witch and the sea

Author: Maggie Tokuda-hall

Genre: Lgbtqia+, fantasy

Rating: 3 stars

Publisher: Candlewick Press

Date published: 5/05/20

The review:

*Please note i use she/ he for Flora/Florian *

The plot:

Flora/Florian is a pirate aboard the Dove, it masquerades as a passenger ship when it is in fact a slaver ship. She is trying to fit in on the Dove as a man and in order to do that she commits an atrocious task that will forever hunt her. Once this task is complete she dons on the name Florian and he is her and she is he ( listen when i wrote this part it sounded nice in my head). Now all she/he wants to do is escape this hell called the dove.

Lady Evelyn Hasegawa grew up in a cold, unloving household and is eventually sold off as a ”wife” to the highest bidders in order to pay off her parents debt. She boards the dove that would take her to the Floating islands to meet her husband. When Florian is assigned as her guard, something special and dangerous blooms between them…..

 And then the adventure begins.

What i liked:

The book starts off slow, introducing characters and setting the pace for the story. Its divided into three parts and it has interludes in which the seas point of view is shared. In this book, the sea is given the identity of a mother and her daughters; the Mermaids are her memories. I thought this was interesting and i liked the idea of the sea as a mother who is both fearsome and gentle but cannot be tamed.

The world Maggie created was one that had imperial rule and colonialism, and the effects of this are shown on different characters throughout the book. When you read there are two types of characters you will see

  • The ones who forever hate the emperor and therefore hate imperial nobles
  • The ones who for some reason saw colonialism as a good thing
  • The imperialists who thing they are better than everyone

And you can relate to this on a personal level if you are from a colonised country, when you think about what was lost.

It is an interesting world building, in the sense that the Emperor has colonized and set the imperial rule around the known world and now he is trying to conquer the sea.

The magic system in the book is unique, stories are spells. They are cast and in exchange for  something. You would have to pay close attention when reading this part it can get quite confusing.

What didn’t work so well

This is why i rated it three stars

I didn’t find the characters interesting, i tried but i just couldn’t. I wish the secondary characters in the were more developed, maybe that would have helped a bit especially the pirate supreme their story felt incomplete to me. Although the witchcaft system was interesting, i would have liked to see more of it. It was just used three times and then dropped. I felt the ending was rushed. It was like…one two three KABOOM. The end.

And that’s all  for this review, remember to pick up the book if you are interested in it.

Thanks for reading please subscribe and share this post.

Blogmas Day 7: Reading Goals for 2020

Hello you lovely humans,

Lets talk reading goals. Now this year i had a blast hunny, i enjoyed most of the books i read. I took my precious time in devouring the words and just loving the story. Of course i had some what the fuck am i reading books, but in general they were all good.

Okay so i was supposed to write the review for the starless sea today but erm i still haven’t finished writing it up its still on paper and i have about 34 pages to finish. I’ll give you that tomorrow. Catch up on day four  and day six

I posted an update a while ago on Arc’s and why i had to take a break ( this was coupled with the drama llama on twitter concerning arcs and authors). And i have to be honest reading without expectations of a deadline has been peaceful af.

I check off my goals for reading which i posted earlier this year. Its time to make a new one and smash it!

Divider (2)

Reading with Intention

Last year i read with the intention of enjoying what i read. In 2020 i will be reading with the intention of enjoying and learning a new habit, skill and others ( what ever is out there to learn, good stuff only though!). I am opening myself to enjoy, know and understand what i read.

Diversity

Although i did read a couple of diverse books i would admit i could do a lot better. I want to read more POC Works and i have already set books on my tbr for this ( Dear Lordt please let me stick to it).

Tomes

I want to tackle longer books next year, that would mean a shorter reading goal ( I am thinking 52-60)

ARC Backlist

And finally, i hope to clear my backlog of ARC’s on Netgalley. I would be joining Destiny’s ARCApocalypse , you can join this too if you have books to clear.

Bonus:

Blogging: Now i am not going to make any gigantic goals for this next year but my goal would be to write more and enjoy what i write. I would focus on putting out good content.

That’s it for this post.

Thank you for reading and catching up with me. What are your reading and blogging  goals for next year?

As always,
