Welcome to Blogtober!: But First Let’s Wrap-up

Hello My lovely humans!

Ah the dryness is sipping into the air here, Harmattan season is crawling up on us. For you elsewhere in the world its fall season, pumpkin spice latte season and HALLOWEEN! ( my favorite Holiday ever). Or maybe its summer or its already winter (goodluck).

Right now i am plotting my whole list of what to blog this month, its also my Bloggiversary this month 3 years since i started!

But first Let’s wrap-up last month.

What I Read

Higher is waiting by Tyler Perry: I am currently on a journey of healing and Tyler is one of the people i look up to, love him or hate him you cannot deny that the man has worked his way up from grass to grace. It’s a spiritual guidance book and it is packed with gems. For my Christian peeps and also non-Christian, If you are interested in healing soul, this book is a good start.

Emergency Skin By N.K Jemisin: My first book by the Queen and i loved it! Her writing is intelligent and her world building is superb. And that’s just from the glimpse i got, i am excited to go through her work.

The falling by [ J.C Owens]: I wasted money on this book and it pissed me the fuck off. It had so much premise, so much! And then it turned to shit in the middle and utter crap at the end.

How to Elude a Vampire by Alice Winters (VRC : Vampire related crimes): This book was actually better than the first one but it still had the problem of ”too much humor” so it was a good 3.5 stars. You may like it so try it out.

Comics

The Book of Chaos [Issues 1-4]

[ARC] Slaughterhouse- five by Kurt Vonnegut adapted by Ryan North: Mama i read a classic this year! My theory is that all classics should be graphic novels, that way people would read them. Ryan North did a brilliant adaptation of this book and i cannot recommend it enough.

Fatale [Volume 1 and 2] by Ed Brubaker: If you are looking for a halloween comic try this one, there are five volumes and the first two are available on kindle unlimited.

Audiobooks

Emergency Skin: I read and listened to it, Jacob Isaacs did a wonderful job.

The gentleman from Peru by Andre Aciman: Yes he’s the one that wrote call me by your name, no i am not going to read that book because…no. However, I love reincarnation and past lives stories so i picked up this one because of that. I hated the female lead she was in my opinion insufferable. Raul deserved better.

A villain for Christmas by Alice Winters: Now this i did enjoy, i think in this book Alice used the humor properly and it was fun to listen to. August and Landon were the cutest people ever. Do check this one out, it makes an entertaining reading.

The Zeta Family by Gretchen Enders: I read this because of Inkish Kingdoms and i loved it! Its a wacky story about Katie who joins a cult to get an expose on the leader Zeta Doug, when she gets there things aren’t what they seem and their members are also wacky! Another fun listen my dudes get on this.

Life

Well i started a healing journey, i realized i have been carrying a lot of junk in my mind and they were weighing me down. One of them is fear, i am afraid of so many things i realized that i am not as adventurous as i used to be. I will be turning 26 soon and i want to leave that all behind and start being the person i need to be. Learning to forgive myself and be patient is sometimes hard, i find myself slipping into nihilistic mindsets and i have to jerk myself out of them if not i’ll become Neet 2.0 ( my anime peeps know).

Anime

I am back to watching anime again although its mainly old ones ( no i haven’t watched God of highschool yet i will binge it soon). Here’s what i watched in September

  • Shinchou Yuusha : Kono Yuusha Ore tuee Kise Ni shinchou ( the over cautious hero)
  • Himouto! Umaru-chan
  • Mangaka san to assistant-san

And that’s pretty much it for my wrap-up

What did you read, watch or do in September?

Hello!

Recipe to try this month

I want to start making my own body creams so i have been scouring pinterest for Cocoa butter recipes to try. I chose cocoa butter because i want to smell like chocolate 24/7 and also because of the benefits it has on the skin. I found this recipe on Little green dot and that’s what i’ll be going with, it should be easy to do.

3/4 cocoa butter + 1/4 coconut oil

  • Melt them together in a bain marie
  • freeze the mixture for 20 minutes
  • whip it with a handheld mixer

Learning

I am currently reading up on adaptogens and how they help the body, from regulation of hormones to boosting of moods. I’ll link them at the bottom if you are interested take a peek.

I am also planning on reading Storm in a teacup : the physics of everyday life by Helen Czerski and the lean Startup by Eric Ries.

Life In General

I am hoping for a mental transformation this month. I started a bullet journal and also the Chloe Ting Challenge i am on day two and i want to die already. I have plans which i can’t talk about yet but i am working towards them. I am committed to enjoying the process and learning how to be patient with myself.

And that’s all. I pray September treats everyone well. I pray for transformations where you need them.

February Wrap-up

Hallo lovely Humans!

And February is done! leap years are weird man, i keep thinking of people born on leap year, how do they celebrate their birthdays?

So here’s how February went

Reading:

  1. Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman [ Audio-book and Physical copy]: i started this in January I finished this the first week of Feb. okay i understand the hype, i got the audio book for Geminae and obsidio so i will be reading that sometime this year
  2. Shiver by Ella Frank And Brooke Blaine[E-book]: i don’t know how i feel about this, it was supposed to be dark but i just found it meh. i will still read more from these authors though, they are one of my favourite writing duo’s.
  3. Questions for Ada by Ijeoma Umebinyuo [E-book]:  Loved this collection of poems,
  4. Neighborly by Katrina Jackson [E-book]: OO lordy this is a smexy read, A+ smut highly recommend ( for +18 obvs )
  5. The Circle (Omega Academy#2) by Lily Archer [E-book]: I wrote a review of this already and i hope you actually pick up this series its super interesting!
  6. Finding Finely by Riley Hart [E-book]: this was a slow one i dropped it and then because i was curious i picked it up to finish it, it was okay just tiring and a bit repetitive for me (18+ with BDSM)
  7. Snug: A collection of comics about dating your best friend by Catana Chetwynd: The cutest book ever. If you follow Catana’s comic on instgram be sure to check this one out.
  8. The Empress of Salt and fortune by Nghi Vo [E-Arc]: This book is small but mighty and it has an Enby character. My review would be up this month but i am telling you people to preorder this one, this one is for women.
  9. And Then there were none by Agatha Christie [E-book]: I love mystery books even though i don’t read them all the time ( which i should). The quickest way to getting me to add a book to my tbr is a whodunit mystery. I love the tension, the guessing and oh shit i did not see that coming moments. And this book had all of those, it was so good! I highly recommend this and its available of KU.

Mental health:

This month was okay, i had a heart to heart talk with my mum about me going trying out therapy this year for the first time and it was refreshing. Reading Questions for Ada was eye opening for me because i realized that i am hard on myself for not being were i want to be and for mistakes i made in the past. I decided i am going to learn how to be soft.

January 2020 Wrap-up

Hello Humans,

Boy am i glad this month is over! What a way to start the new decade with all the weirdness in the world. You want my advice? Turn of your tv!

I read a total of five books this month i enjoyed four of them, the last one was meh

January Books

  • [owned physical copy]Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman: Absolutely enjoyed this! The first book i read from this duo, i am encouraged to read the illuminae series now. I am looking forward to Aurora Burning.
  • [kindle E-book]The travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa: I wrote a review of this book already. I friggin loved it, i am just saying if i get a cat you would know why.
  • [dARC] Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo: Pre-order this NOW! I will get a review out when its time but trust me its awesome.
  • The Half-god of rainfall by Innua Ellams [Audio book available on scribd]: Do you ever wish all the women Zeus abused got revenge well strap in for a ride because this epic poem by Innua Ellams lays to rest that wish. I listened to the audio book and its spoken by the author its just beautiful. The review would be up tomorrow
  • [Manga ARC] Don’t Call me dirty by Gorou Kanabe: And of course this Manga broke my five star streak .It wasn’t bad it was just meh ( The meh scale is 2.5- 3 stars ).

I also started Killing commendatore by Murakami Haruki which i have been dying to read since forever ( also shout to Kate Pfeil…i watched her YouTube videos on Japanese literature. I was just getting in Japanese Lit when i stumbled on it. Check out her videos

I tried to start a habit journal and well i fell off the grid hard.  I will try again Next month ( *eye roll* which means i have to prepare it). I am thinking of using this as an excuse to get more washi tape.

I also started a course on Skillshare: The art and science of drawing with Brent Eviston, it breaks down drawings to the basic shapes while teaching  the proper techniques for drawing. One thing i am learning is that draw is a skill not a talent and to improve you have to practice ( get that muscle memory going).

Thank you for reading, i pray February is even better than this month. I would like us to remember to treasure our loved ones.

As Always,

Nelo-Booked Unicorn.
